Frequently asked questions
Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy is most beneficial if you're motivated to make lasting changes, open to exploring your thoughts and behaviours, and seeking a practical, solution-focused approach to overcoming challenges. This is a collaborative process—your willingness to engage and take an active role in the work we do together is key to creating real, lasting transformation.
Absolutely. There is a long history of hypnotherapy being a recognised as a safe and effective therapy. As a trained and qualified professional, I ensure that all sessions are conducted in a safe and supportive environment, tailored to your individual needs. There are certain cases where it may not be ethical or appropriate to work together, such as with individuals experiencing conditions like schizophrenia or psychosis. In these instances, a different type of professional support may be required.
No. Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis as a state of focused attention—not a traditional trance. While it’s often relaxing, it can also feel alert and mentally active, like being deeply absorbed in a task. You remain fully aware and in control, making it easier to engage with suggestions and create meaningful change.
You are always in control during Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy. Hypnosis is a focused, relaxed state—like deep concentration—where you're fully aware and able to make choices. I only make suggestions aligned with your goals, and you have the power to accept or reject them. CBH is a collaborative process that empowers you to challenge unhelpful thoughts and create lasting change.
Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy is strongly supported by scientific research, which highlights its effectiveness in treating conditions such as anxiety, stress, and phobias. The integration of CBT with hypnosis provides a powerful combination, allowing deeper access to the subconscious mind and enhancing the effectiveness of traditional CBT techniques, leading to improved overall therapeutic outcomes.
I uphold the highest ethical standards in my practice, and as a registered therapist with the NCH, CNHC and NCIP, I am guided by their robust ethical codes. This includes ensuring confidentiality, maintaining professional boundaries, and providing evidence-based, client-centred care that prioritises your well-being and personal growth. My goal is to be an active ally, fostering an inclusive environment and welcoming clients of all races, genders and sexual orientations.
The number of sessions varies depending on the issue being addressed and your individual needs. Typically, treatment plans are around six sessions, but more may be required for deeper or ongoing concerns. Similarly, a simple habit reversal may only take three sessions. We’ll regularly review your progress to ensure we are on track.
Each session is £80 and lasts the therapy hour (50 minutes). I currently offer a 15% discount when block booking six sessions upfront on our 'Commit To Change' package. For more information, please visit the booking page.
Sessions are available both online and in-person. Online sessions are just as effective as in-person ones and offer flexibility. All you need for an online session is a quiet, private space, and this allows me to work with clients across the globe. For those who prefer in-person sessions, I hold a clinic on Wednesdays at The Lamp House in Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK.
In therapy, the week between sessions is a vital part of your journey. It's an opportunity to actively engage in your growth and carry the momentum forward, whether through listening to personalised hypnosis recordings or reflecting on your own CBT exercises. This continued commitment helps to strengthen your progress, empowering you to create lasting, meaningful change.
